Lump on The Right Side of the Neck
A typical lump on the right side of the neck, may or may not be painful. It can be hard or not so hard, and may or may not be warm to touch. This will typically happen when your body is invaded with a foreign body, like a bacteria or virus. Generally, it may be significant when dealing with any any illness or disease. It can be a pea sized lump on the right side of the neck, or even get bigger. The most common cause is a problem with the lymph nodes. Lymph nodes (also called as lymph glands) are defined as a part of the body’s immune system. They are small clusters of cells that produce antibodies. Lymph nodes is the location where the virus or antibodies deal with the immune cells of the body. The lymph nodes that are situated around the neck particularly are called cervical lymph nodes. Any injury, infection or tumor, in or around the lymph nodes, can cause a problem like swelling. The glands around the neck will generally swell during an infection like a sore throat or cold. Any infection through a cut or a bite can lead to swollen lymph nodes, leaving you with a lump on the affected region. A right side neck lump will be particularly where the jaw hinges. Another possibility with a lump on the right side of the neck is a problem with the thyroid gland, an enlarged thyroid, or a fatty growth too. As discussed earlier, this can be due to any viral attack or infection. The causes can be varied from a mild infection to anything serious, like cancer too. Each case of a lump in the right side of the neck will be different, so the causes and the conclusions will also vary accordingly. It is strictly advised to visit a doctor if the lump is painful and does not diminish even after a week. Depending on the cause of the lump, the doctor can advice a suitable treatment.

The most common cause of a neck bump is a lymph node, that swells due to virus and bacterial infections, cancer, etc. However, other causes can be enlarged salivary glands, torticollis, cysts like sebaceous cysts, thyroid diseases like goiter, and cancer of the thyroid. Others like Graves disease, viral infections, allergic reactions, etc., can also be the causes. Depending on the underlying cause of the issue, tests will be conducted and the doctor will accordingly advice treatment. One must remember that not all lumps can be cancerous or very serious. But ignorance is not healthy too. So do not follow any self diagnosis and treatment. As soon as a lump grows on the neck, get a checkup done by a medical expert.
