Before you start cleaning the fish, be humane and make sure it is dead. If it is wriggling even slightly, a sharp blow to the back of the head will end its suffering. Then wash it well with water.

Cutting
•You can nail the head of the catfish to the cutting board, to make cleaning it easier.
•Slice off the pectoral fin with your knife.
•Grip the head of the fish in one hand firmly.
•Do not make deep flesh cuts or touch the bone of the fish. Use your knife to make light skin cuts or shallow slits.
•Use the knife to make a vertical cut at a slight slant behind the gills.
•The cut should begin at the end of one gill and meet at the second gill on the fish’s other side.
•Then make a similar skin cut along the spine of the fish, from its head to its tail.
•Do not cut through the dorsal fins, instead cut around it.
•Make a shallow slit along the belly of the fish.
•Make a similar vertical cut at the tail of the fish, where the fleshy part ends.
Skinning
■Lay the cut fish sideways on the board.
■Clamp the skinning pliers onto the skin cut, either the one on the fish’s side or the point where the two cuts meet.
■Slowly but firmly pull the pliers back, to peel off the skin from the flesh, in one smooth motion.
■Do not pull the fish away from the skin, rather pull the skin away from the fish.
■Peel back the skin until the tail cut. Peeling the fish perfectly will need experience, but your style will improve with time.
■You can also hang the fish up by its head and pull the skin off using the pliers in a downward motion. This peeling technique is recommended for large fish as their skin is very thick.
Cleaning Out

You can either serve catfish fillets or cook the complete body. Which cut to use, depends on the overall size of the fish. Small-sized catfish should be cooked intact and whole, while large and fleshy catfish will yield juicy fillets. For catfish fillets, slide your knife sideways into the flesh of the peeled fish and slice it away from the vertebrae or rib cage of the fish. Steps involved in cleaning a catfish are:
•Check to see that all the skin on the fish’s body has been peeled.
•Catch the fish’s head in your hand and bend it backwards towards the tail, then pull it forward to touch the stomach. This breaks the spine.
•Cut the head off or pull it towards the tail and yank it off.
•Cut off the tail and any fins, except the dorsal fins.
•Lay the fish on the board, such that its belly faces you and make a light slit to open its stomach.
•Use your finger to remove entrails and body parts, leaving only the flesh.
•Wash out the body with cold running body, such that it is free of blood outside and inside.
•You can cook the fish with its dorsal fin intact or remove it whole.
•To do so, make a cut, half inches deep along the sides of the fin. Then use pliers to pull out the fin.

Anyone who enjoys beer would love to have a beer of the month club subscription as a gift. Beer of the month clubs provide beer lovers with the ability to find new beers and try new flavors they might not otherwise have been able to try. Even beers from around the United States are difficult to find in your average liquor store, so even the most avid beer seeker might not find what is available through a beer of the month club. Imported beers are even more difficult to find in the United States, so a club that includes international beers is an extra special treat.

How do I sign up?

Signing up for a beer of the month club is easy. The best way to start is by doing a little research. There are quite a few options out there, so start with an Internet search for “beer of the month clubs.” You’ll find all sorts of different webpages that will lead you to all of your options. There are clubs that deliver domestic beers, imported beers, microbrewed beers, and any combination of the above. Some sites will even tell you what breweries they work with, which can give you a better idea of what you might like. Once you find the club that works for you, you can sign up right on the club’s webpage with a credit card and shipping information.

How much does it cost?

Beer of the month club subscriptions can cost anywhere from $30-$50 per month. Shipping beers domestically is cheaper than shipping them internationally, so clubs that are all international beers are usually the most expensive, and ones that include some international beers are somewhere in the middle. The most inexpensive option would be to subscribe to a club that only offers domestic beers and microbrews. Generally, your credit card will be charged each month when the beer is shipped.

How long does it last?

Beer of the month clubs are a perfect gift because you can choose how many months you want the beer to come. Generally, each club has a minimum number of months that are required to be purchased, but after that you can choose from two months to twenty-four and up. You can even have the beer shipped monthly, every other month, or quarterly.

Things Required
•1 cup barley
•3 pints water
•Freshly squeezed lemon juice
•Salt and sugar, as per taste
Procedure

In a large pot, add the water and barley, and bring the mixture to boil. When the water begins to boil, lower the heat and let it simmer till the level of water is reduced to half. Check once in a while, or the water may completely evaporate! Once the desired level is reached, turn off the heat and let the mixture cool. Once it reaches room temperature, strain the mixture using a sieve and add salt and sugar. Also, add the lemon juice and stir well. Your drink is ready to be served!

Recipe Variations
•Barley water can taste bland unless you add lemon juice, salt, and sugar. You can also add a few drops of honey to the mixture as an alternative.
•Other options are to add grated ginger or ½ an inch of cinnamon stick to the boiling water to impart some flavor to the drink. Crushed/chopped mint leaves is also a good alternative. Another unusual way is to add freshly squeezed orange juice (take 2 oranges) to the barley water for a refreshing citrus drink. Cucumber juice is another popular flavoring agent.
•If you are a real health freak, use Demerara sugar (also called turbinado or brown sugar) instead of white sugar; it is a healthier alternative.
•The barley remains that are left after the mixture is strained, can also be used to make porridge and as a thickening agent in a variety of casseroles, soups, and stews.
•If the barley water is intended for babies, you may omit the sugar and lemon juice if you want. Never add honey to barley water that is meant for babies. Honey can cause botulism in infants. Barley water is beneficial for infants as it is extremely easy to digest, it can be started off just before you introduce your little one to solids.
•Usually hulled or pearl barley is used to make barley water. Before you use the barley, you should actually wash it well. Take a mid-sized pot, and add the barley seeds to it. Add water. Gently wash the barley and swirl it around a few times, repeat this twice. Once you have washed it, proceed to make barley water.
•Barley water can be had warm or chilled, depending upon your taste.
•Barley water is extremely advantageous to your health. Warm barley water is an effective remedy to treat sore throat and cough. Regular consumption of barley water is said to prevent kidney stones.

Storing chocolate-covered strawberries in the right way starts with the process of their actual preparation. Though the initial recipe is simple, it plays an important part in preserving strawberries till they are served to your guests. Here is how you begin.
•Washing the Strawberries
Once you buy fresh strawberries, wash them as soon as you can. Do not rub harshly as the outer layer of strawberries is tender. Do not pluck away the green stem. Once done, spread out the strawberries on a kitchen napkin for drying. Take care to check that the strawberries are completely dry. Even a small drop of water may affect the taste and texture of this dessert. Once done, use small toothpicks to spear into the fruit.
•Covering with Chocolate
Dip these strawberries in a pan full of hot, melted chocolate. After applying a thick layer of chocolate to the strawberries, place them on a sheet of wax paper. It is essential that the chocolate gives off all the steam, so as to protect the strawberries from excessive moisture. Now place the chocolate-covered strawberries in your refrigerator for at least half an hour, to hasten the process of chocolate setting. Once the chocolate hardens, remove from the refrigerator.
•Freezing Strawberries
Take a clean plastic container. This container should be large enough to avoid these strawberries from overcrowding. Also the container box needs to have a tight lid or cap. Take a fresh piece of waxed paper and spread it at the base of the box. Now place the chocolate-covered strawberries on it. Strawberries may be placed inside the container in layers. However, make sure to add a fresh sheet of waxed paper between every two layers. Once done, place a final piece of waxed paper on top of the strawberries and just below the lid. Ensure that your strawberries are not getting squished while you shut the lid.
•Storing the Plastic Container
Once the lid is tightly closed, place the container in the vegetable section of your refrigerator, as it is one of the coldest sections of the entire appliance. Ideally, keep the lid closed till you actually serve the strawberries.

Even if you order a salad every day from a restaurant, accounting for all of the things they put on the salad plus the extra-high calorie dressing can be really difficult if you’re trying to watch what you eat. Often, salads from restaurants are higher in calories than a typical sandwich. However, bringing your own salad from home can help cut calories and costs. Salads are great to bring to work, too, because you can put almost anything in them, from leftover meat to your favorite fruits and vegetables. You can even get a cool reusable container that has a special compartment for dressing from your local superstore which will help you save the environment, too.

Other Entrée Meals

Making a little bit too much dinner and packing it up to bring to work the next day is a great way to have a delicious meal without any extra expense and without a lot of extra preparation. When you’re finished with your dinner, just put a portion of the leftovers in reusable containers. Remember to refrigerate the leftover food overnight, though. Pre-prepared food should stay cold to avoid food spoilage.

Snacks and Sides

If mid-morning or mid-afternoon hunger catches you off guard, having a snack packed and ready to go can help you make it to your next meal. Some great ideas for healthy snacks that won’t break the budget include cottage cheese, yogurt, hummus and veggies, apple slices, and mixed nuts. All of these snacks will keep your energy up, so you can finish the job.

Think Outside the Brown Bag

Brown paper bags are a great way to pack your lunch, but instead of buying tons of brown bags over and over again, why not get a lunch box? Lunch boxes are so much cooler now than they were when you were in grade school. Most of them are insulated to keep food cold until you’re ready to eat, and lots of them have nifty pouches and features that hold your food for you. You can also get an ice pack that you keep in the freezer overnight and use to keep your food cold during the day. All you have to do is toss it in your insulated lunch bag before you leave for work. Plus, it’s all reusable, so you’re being eco-friendly, too.

Ingredients

•Water
•Sugar
•Ice
•Lemon Juice
•Egg Whites
•Berries
•White Wine (if you please!)
Method

Step 1: Mix 2 cups of water and one cup of sugar and stir it till all the sugar melts. After this, boil the mixture in a boiling vessel.

Step 2: Let the mixture cool down and put it into the freezer (for an hour approximately).

Step 3: Meanwhile, extract fresh lemon juice from 3 lemons and keep it ready.

Step 4: Remove the semi-frozen mixture from the deep fridge and mix the lemon juice in it. This should be done in a way that the ice transforms into crystals.

Step 5: Again place the contents in the freezer.

Step 6: Take a glass bowl and add the frozen contents in it and stir it again, maintaining the crystallized effect.

Step 7: Now, after stirring again, put the content in the freezer and let it freeze for about half an hour.

Step 8: Remove the bowl and stir the content again.

Step 9: And now for the last time, again put the mixed content in the freezer for about 3 hours.

Step 10: Remove the mixture from the fridge and sort of mash them.

Your Italian ice is ready!

The answer to this question is a ‘yes’, they are healthy. But we cannot term them as completely healthy or unhealthy. Just because they are hybrid does not make them any unhealthy or healthier than the naturally grown plants. If you take a practical look at the whole process of it, the plant still grows in soil, with natural resources like water and sunlight. The only difference is that pollination is ‘arranged’ here. Alteration in the vegetable is done, to make sure it gives good color, texture, flavor and more. Farmers pick the best traits from two closely similar plant varieties (the parents) and then cross pollinate them. These give a better quality of vegetables than the parent plants. The seeds of these plants may not necessarily give the exact same plant, the seeds will continue to vary the produce. So new seeds need to be purchased every year. Hybridization also increases the produce along with the quality of vegetables. So we can say that these vegetables are just vegetables after all. The only reason that they are pollinated by hand deliberately cannot make them unhealthy. Hybrids, in some cases can have better nutrition if we consider optimum utilization of soil and sun and nutrients they are grown in. So a better variety of vegetable may have a good texture and life along with having the same nutritional value. These were some of the positive aspects, that support hybrid vegetables and nutrition. Let us now look at some pointers that raise concern.

Even if hybrids are modified and made from pollinating the best breeds, there is no guarantee that the new plant will possess major nutrition. It may or may not lean against the benefits of the parent plant. More over, even if they are developed in a controlled environment, they can absorb pesticides and other compounds meant to improve the plant’s resistance to insects and other dangers. They can also absorb harmful and toxic substances from the surroundings. Many also believe that these vegetables are over hybridized.

It is concluded that there is enough evidence that hybrid vegetables are as healthy as the heirloom, or open pollinated vegetables. We cannot term either of them above and superior. Organic or heirloom vegetables too can absorb toxins, so just because they are grown naturally does not make them purer than hybrids.

Some people strongly oppose while some do believe that hybrids are better. We say it is a personal decision. Moreover with time and research, we can expect a strong base to evaluate or rate on how healthy are hybrid vegetables.
