What are your tricks for cooking every day when you don’t enjoy it?

I don’t hate cooking, but I hate the inconvenience. A few times a week, I don’t mind. But I dread the thought of cooking dinner every day. Unfortunately, due to health issues my husband and I need to start eating home cooked food more – no eating out, no processed foods. What are your personal tricks for making cooking faster, more interesting and more fun everyday?

Best reply by Zipper Head:

leftovers are a mainstay, and I try do cook “en masse” so there are leftovers. Cook more rice than you need, and use it the next day in a different way, like a fritatta or stir fry. You can do the same with pasta.
Pasta salad, pasta with meat sauce… et al. It really is a great way to use the imagination. Create your own recipies, cook together, and laugh alot when you do it.

Does cooking food in a microwave still retain the goodness?

the same as conventional cooking?

Many things taste the same, some things taste better cooked in a microwave, and it’s much quicker. I just wondered if they destroy nutrients in food though?
I do conventional cooking as well but often use the microwave for quickness, or combination of the two methods.

Best reply by Silly-of-nilly:

NO WAY

the only form of cooking that retains the “goodness” is raw cooking. All the enzymes are cooked out when you cook food over 113 f. I your concerned about nutrition i recommend eating a few meals a week that are raw, and filling not just a salad.

How much cooking oil is actually in a serving of fried food?

I am deep frying a serving of fries and chicken and wondered how much of the cooking oil is actually in the cooked food. I am using Canola oil and after the food is cooked and drained I am thinking that there isn’t much oil left in the food. What do you think?

Best reply by corvato:

depends on the food and its batter, the temperature you are frying at, and how long its fried

beer batter, or wet batters won’t hold as much as something like breadcrumbs, and the hotter and quicker you fry the less oil will be absorbed.
